WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL 2018-2019

Couple of seniors kicking things off!

Ready or not, school is about to begin. Welcome back students for a great school year! I am anxious to meet the students and see how everyone has grown over the summer. I have had the opportunity to see our athletes during their Fall Sport practices. Everyone looks a lot bigger, stronger and faster than a year a go. 

Classes at Colstrip Public Schools begin tomorrow, August 23, 2018. Just as a reminder, on Thursdays school is dismissed early for staff development so tomorrow is a partial day of school and will start and dismiss at the following times:

Pine Butte Elementary School: 8:15 AM - 2:30 PM

Frank Brattin Middle School: 8:15 AM - 2:45 PM

Colstrip High School: 8:05 AM - 2:35 PM

The buses will run on their regular schedules.

Friday, August 24, 2018 is the second day of school, but the first full day with the following schedule for start and dismissal:

Pine Butte Elementary School: 8:15 AM - 3:30 PM

Frank Brattin Middle School: 8:15 AM - 3:45 PM

Colstrip High School: 8:05 AM - 3:35 PM

I hope everyone is ready to "Make Dust" and have the best year ever!

New Educator Eclipse

It is my pleasure to introduce and welcome the new educators that have been hired for 2017-2018 school year. Their first day together was on August 21, 2017 along with a solar eclipse.  We anxiously await the light that they will shed upon our learning community. Go out there and Make some Dust!

WELCOME BACK - A GROWTH MINDSET!

This morning I read an email from one of my administrators, Debi Smith. She shared this quote with her staff. I would like to share it with you as it is so applicable in making a difference. First we need to accept change; NO...we need to "WELCOME CHANGE!"

“Welcome change.”

There is nothing more certain in our lives than change. Yet many of us fear change and make elaborate plans to avoid it. We fear the new and find comfort in the stability of the known and familiar.

But to grow, you need to not only accept change but to embrace it, joyfully. Think of a flowing stream as representing your life. In some places, it flows smoothly, with barely a ripple as it travels on its journey. At other places along the way, obstacles create great turbulence; the water roars and thunders as it crashes through gorges and down steep falls.

These represent both the easy and difficult times you experience.

Yet, a stream may have a place where the water becomes banked up, stagnant, unhealthy. Here, nothing thrives and nothing changes.

Welcome the rushing waters of change into your life, for change means growth, spiritual health, and self-realization. Embrace each new direction you encounter with courage and enthusiasm. It’s the key to a happier you.

Colstrip Board Approves Canvas and Reorganizes Its Leadership

County Superintendent Joby Parker swears in new members.

 The Colstrip School District Board #19 reorganized and swore in new candidates at the May 9, 2016 Meeting. This is part of the reorganization process. The Board Members first approved the ballot canvas as seen in the photo. District Clerk and Election Officer, Joanne Schrupp presented the canvas for approval. The canvas contained two items: the Elementary General Fund Levy and the High School General Fund Levy. The Board approved the canvas results. The levies officially passed. The Board also approved election results for new board members by acclamation since there wasn't any opposition.

Bruce Brown and Deb Peters were each appointed 3 year terms by acclamation and Tanya Bradley will fill in the remainder of a vacated position for one year, also by acclamation.

José Ortiz was nominated and reinstated as the Chairman as was Deb Peters as the Vice Chairman.

The Board then appointed the following members as board committee representatives:
Transportation: Bruce Brown, Deb Peters
Facilities: Deb Peters, Bruce Brown
Curriculum Steering: Tanya Bradley , Steve Craig
Policy Review: Steve Craig, Tanya Bradley
Technology: Steve Craig, José Ortiz
Communications: Deb Peters, José Ortiz

Colstrip Welcomes New Middle School Principal for 2016-2017

The Colstrip School Board put the final stamp of approval on the hire of next year's middle school principal at Frank Brattin at their April 11, 2016 Board Meeting. Interviews were held March 14, 2016 by three panels: FBMS Staff Panel, CPS Administrative Panel and the Superintendent. Pax Haslem was the recommended candidate for the job.

I am very excited about what Mr. Haslem has to offer our district. He is a certified administrator who will be in is first year as a principal. He is very enthusiastic and has experience with some of the key initiatives that our district is currently undertaking.

Mr. Haslem is a very likable individual that has a plethora of experience in middle school and serving at-risk students. I believe him to be a "no-nonsense" type of leader that is willing to embrace new ideas with the greater organization in mind.

We would like to welcome Mr. Haslem and his two daughters to our district and schools. We have high expectations that he will help our students MAKE DUST!

Congratulations Mr. Haslem! Welcome to Colstrip, Montana!
